At Steenbergen Schoenen, we understand that like no other: we have been a family business since 1946 where craftsmanship, comfort, and personal attention are central — in our store in Rijssen and online.

The beginning

Grandpa Jan Steenbergen once started out by picking up shoes for repair from customers' homes. After repairing them, he would tie them by their shoelaces to his bicycle handlebars and deliver the footwear back to the customers' homes.

Jan began his footwear adventure in 1946 with repairs, having earned his shoemaking diploma in 1942. Gradually, he decided to start selling shoes as well. This led to the purchase of the building at Haarstraat 54 in 1957, where we are still located today. In 1970, his son, Jan Jr., joined the business and the shop was renovated.

The sons

Following the passing of his father, Wim begins working in the store. He becomes responsible for the sales side, while his brother Jan takes charge of the repairs. In 1981, the selection is expanded to include women's shoes and the store undergoes a transformation. Later, Wim's son Jurgen, son Jan, and daughter Madeleine join the business.

Innovations and third generation

In 2011, the offering was expanded to include our own webshop. Jan, Jurgen, and Madeleine are now responsible for the day-to-day management of the store. What started small in 1946 with just shoe repairs has grown into a trusted name in both the online and offline footwear world. "The circle is complete; thanks to the webshop, the post brings the shoes back to the customer's home. Old-fashioned, but with a digital twist, you could say."
